We\u2019ve covered a lot this semester &#8211; from Jeroos and basic Java programs, to control structures and object oriented design.\u00a0 Next on the list though is a new tool for storing information that will make it much easier to store large groups of data in just a few variables. For this, we\u2019ll use something called <\/span><i><span>arrays<\/span><\/i><span>. Arrays are data structures in programming that have the following characteristics:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>They have a single name for the entire array (list)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>They can reference each spot individually<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>They start counting their spots at \u2018location 0\u2019<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>They all have a non-negative length<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span>As we practice with arrays and try to do various things with them, we\u2019ll need to be able to do a few very specific tasks:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span>Create arrays with the values we want<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Recall or change the values within an array<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Print an entire array using a \u2018for\u2019 loop<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Traverse an array to look at each spot<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span>Once we\u2019ve tackled these skills, we\u2019ll be able to use arrays for all sorts of good things!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=&#8221;1&#8243; can cause a section of the program to repeat itself a different number of times. \u00a0One of the challenges is to use a loop that gives you the kind of control that you want.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>WHILE<\/strong> loop (sometimes called sentinel controlled repetition) uses a counter to keep track of how often the program has run. \u00a0Once the counter (or another variable) reaches a threshold, the loop finally stops.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>FOR\u00a0<\/strong>loop (sometimes called counter-controlled repetition) uses a variable to count the number of times the loop has repeated. \u00a0Once the counting variable reaches its limit, the loop ends and the program continues.<\/p>\n<p>These two looping structures are the focus of this part of the unit, and will be important tools throughout the rest of the year!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>GRADING &amp;
