Introduction to
engineering& robotics
This introductory class covers concepts in the Engineering Design Process, how to build robots of all kinds, and use technolgoy to solve real-world problems!
1st Quarter
Unit 1: Block Person
Due: September 2, 2022
Using Autodesk to create a 3D model, learning different types of engineering sketches and building in our Makerspace.
Unit 2: Engineering Design Process
Due: September 23, 2022
An introduction to the Engineering Design Process as we develop a solution concept for a real-world acrtic problem.
Unit 3: LEGO Robots
Due: October 14, 2022
Basic programming skills in Java and C as well as designing, building, and troubleshooting with LEGO Robots.
2nd Quarter
Unit 4: FTC Robotics
Due: November 4, 2022
Building large robots to compete in the year’s FTC Robotics challenge, and an invitation to the Fairbanks Robotics League
Unit 5: Machines
Due: November 23, 2022
A chance to learn about machines in our Makerspace as you choose from the Laser, Vinyl Cutter, CNC Router, and Soldering.

Unit 6: Individual Projects
Due: December 16, 2022
Here’s your chance to make something awesome and develop your own short-term engineering & design project.
3rd Quarter

Unit 7: FTC Robotics 2
Due: January 20, 2023
Continue with your team to redesign and rebuild your FTC Robot so that it can score points under driver control.
Unit 8: Simple Machines
Due: February 17, 2023
Learn about the 6 simple machines, and then apply them in the design and construction of your own Rube Goldberg Machine.

Unit 9: FTC Competition
Due: March 10, 2023
One last round of FTC Robot Building to get your design finalized and working in time for our class FTC Robo-Showdown!
4th Quarter

Unit 10: Arduino
Due: April 7, 2023
Learn your fourth programming language of the year: Arduino. Build your electronics skills by learning Arduino prototyping
Unit 10: BugBots
Due: April 28, 2023
Design and build your very own Bug Bot! These robots are hard-wired (no programming) to drive and turn themselves.

Unit 12: Individual Projects
Due: May 12, 2023
Here you get the chance to apply everything you’ve learned about engineeringto plan, design, and build your own project!
